Pipefitting
For over 131
years, the highly trained, and highly skilled pipefitters of UA local union 72
have been responsible for keeping metropolitan Atlanta, and the state of
Georgia in the forefront of commercial and industrial piping industries.
From the high-rise
office buildings that create the Atlanta skyline, to the many hospitals, power
generating plants, food and beverage facilities, pharmaceutical industry, and
government facilities, local 72 pipefitters construct, maintain, and renovate
them all to keep Georgia as an economic leader in the country.
As a local
72 pipefitter apprentice, you will gain the training needed to become a highly
skilled journeyworker in the piping industry.
Soldering,
brazing, welding, blueprint reading, drawing, rigging, pipe layout, steam and
refrigeration are some of the many highly sought-after skills you will develop
in the pipefitting apprenticeship program.
You will
receive a minimum of 8,000 on the job (OJT) training hours, along with a
minimum of 800 classroom / shop training hours. 240 of those hours are welding
training hours.
The program
is based on 4 years, 2 nights per week, 3.75 hours per night. Classes run from
late August through mid-May, and currently includes a month-long break in
January.
If you enjoy
working with your hands, are mechanically inclined, and you're looking for a
debt free education with a great career, then the UA local 72 pipefitting
apprenticeship program is for you.
